The Upside Down

I loved photographing the humpback whales in Tonga. This is an area where they come to give birth and raise their young to prepare them for the migration. During this time, the mother doesn’t eat, and since they aren’t on the move searching for food, they are pretty docile and very welcoming of us into their world. In this shot, a mother was swimming away from me, and while I knew I had a unique shot, I felt it was missing a little something. When I saw it, I knew it, and it hit me. I flipped the photo upside down so it looked like the whale was doing a full breach out of the water. In 2017, this photo won Grand Prize in Scuba Diving Magazines photography contest.

All artwork is offered as a limited edition. Rodney carefully selects each image and chooses a number of prints to make available for each image. This edition size is shared across all prints of an image. For example, if an edition is set at 25 prints there will never be more than 25 prints of that image (regardless of print size) so each individual work will retain its value over time.

As with most fine art, as an edition sells the prices increase. Later images in an edition will be priced higher.
