Double Take

When I first became interested in nature photography, Africa was high on my bucket list, primarily for the elephants. I can sit with them all day watching how they interact with each other. For this shoot we headed out for a late afternoon game drive to catch the elephants coming out of the swamp as they head into the bush like they do every day. We noticed this small herd of seven just outside the park, and we almost didn’t stop because we knew there would be much larger herds to photograph, but something told me to turn around. We kept a pretty good distance so we didn’t disturb them, but even at our distance you could see how the herd was protecting one of the elephants. This is usually something you see more with the young and not a grown adult. The elephant they were shielding didn’t seem injured or sick, but they were definitely protecting it for some reason. We watched their interactions with each other for a while when these two lined up just perfectly to appear to be just one elephant. I honestly don’t remember if I saw them line up and then I shot it or if I shot it and then noticed the alignment. Either way, it’s one of my all- time favorite shots.

This photo was also a top 10 finalists in the 2021 Greatest Maasai Mara Photographer of the year.

ABOUT LIMITED EDITIONS

All artwork is offered as a limited edition. Rodney carefully selects each image and chooses a number of prints to make available for each image. This edition size is shared across all prints of an image. For example, if an edition is set at 25 prints there will never be more than 25 prints of that image (regardless of print size) so each individual work will retain its value over time.

PRICES RISE AS PRINTS SELL

As with most fine art, as an edition sells the prices increase. Later images in an edition will be priced higher.
